[Log] Rail Raiders Infinite - Double-Dollars and Bases

For Rail Rail Raiders Infinite, I have been working on the Double-Dollar coins, determining the best way to remove the miniatures from their bases, and researching what type of base texture to use for this sci-fi western game.

Double-Dollars

Unpainted and Painted Double-Dollars Tokens
My first goal was to paint the Double-Dollar tokens, the currency and victory condition for winning in the Rail Raiders Infinite game. These coins have a considerable amount of detail that is somewhat hard to distinguish and appreciate in its unpainted form. A simple paint job really brings out the details. The mmber on the coins were painted with a lighter/brighter color compared to the rest of the coin.

Removing Miniatures from their Bases

Deputy Lawbot removed from its base.
With the coins finished, the next step is to work on the Lawbots and Raiders. I decided early on that I want to add details and textures to their bases which had no details. The miniatures come pre-assembled glued to their bases. I have read from a variety of forums on how to remove a miniature glued to a base. Suggestions include carefully twisting and pulling on the miniature; use a sharp knight to loosen the miniature from base; using fingernail polish remover; freeze miniature to make it more brittle from the adhesion. Most of those suggestions could result in damaging the miniature, base, or even injuring oneself.
An intact (right) and removed (left) cavity where the miniature is slotted into.
I noticed that underneath the base there is a cavity where the adhesive is placed in and that the minature is slotted into. By using a plastic clipper, I removed the cavity and majority of the adhesive substance that kept the miniature stuck to the base. This allowed me to easily remove the miniature from the base without damaging it. In additional the base can still be used

Texture on Base

I want to add texture on the miniature bases that aesthetically blends with the train car board tiles. The train car tiles have a variety of texture that includes:
  • Floor with Steel Gratings - Many Train Cars
  • Steel Plate Floor - Many Train Cars
  • Wooden Floor - Many of the Expansions Train Cars
  • Carpet Floor - Majority of Train Cars
  • Square Pattern Tiled Floor - Many Train Cars
  • Diamond Pattern Tiled Floor - Dining Room Train Cars
So before I start painting the Lawbots, I will experiment and decide on what base detail(s) I want to add.
