"Warhammer Underwords [...] is a game for two to four players, in which each player takes their warband [...] and pits them against their rivals [...] It's a game of strategy, fast-paced combat and devious ploys, and though you'll find this an easy game to pick up, only the most experienced players will master it. Game Modes

The Shadespire rulebook provided different rulesets to play the game. The default game is intended for 2 players. For competitive play, they recommend the winner of the match up to be decided by a best-of-three game session.

Capture the Artefact provides a common objective for competing players to contest for glory points. Thus, this version of the game gives players a third option in earning glory points.

Finally, there are rules to play multiplayer games with more than 2 players.
